My very simple privacy policy:
EMAIL - If you email me, I’ll know your email address. (I’m working on getting my email address added to this blog in a way that won’t end up overwhelming me with spam.)
I’ll never:
- Use your email address in a post or sell it.
- Continue to email you if you ask me not to (feel free to do this - it’s not personal, some people are very busy).
I might:
- Email you back or email you in the future (perhaps a follow up to a project we discussed).
- In very rare cases, I might “introduce” you to someone else, a resource that could help you with a project or someone seeking help — this would be with both of you giving permission.
REFERRAL LINKS - I’m an Amazon.com affiliate. That means that if I have a link to a product that Amazon sells, and you purchase it through that link, I’ll get a few pennies because I referred you to Amazon. I’ll use any money I earn through this or any other potential referrals to pay for my yearly web hosting costs, after that, to support new projects I’m working on. (I don’t blog because I’m trying to make money from it, I’m doing it because I have fun doing it.)
I’ll never:
- Expect, require, or insist that you purchase anything through a referral link. It’s your money, you decide how you want to spend it. Support your local merchants if they have the item.
- Have a link to an item I don’t own and like. If I’m recommending it to you, it’s because I liked it and think you might too (See below for an exception to this).
I might:
- Have a referral link to an item that’s an alternative to what I’m writing about. I will specifically mention that that item is an alternative and my level of knowledge about it (my brother has one, they look good, etc.). I’ll do this to try to keep things balanced. I most likely won’t own this item.
- In the future, I might offer links from other programs which will pay me a referral fee. The same disclosure policies I have about Amazon would apply to them.
You might:
- Not like the things I like. I can’t do anything about that. Apply common sense and do your own research before you buy.
Google Analytics - I use Google Analytics to see where visitors to this website are coming from: both geographically and by internet hosts. The information is general in nature. Although Google Analytics is a marketing tool, I use it to gage which blog posts are popular.
I’ll never:
- Share, give away, or otherwise distribute the data.
I might:
- Mention that a certain article was more popular than others based on GA data.
