Bringing your bike to the playa? Here are six quick bike ideas in comic book form.
More details after the jump…
- Plastic toolbox (and back lights) - This is an inexpensive plastic tool-box. It’s the “trunk” for my bike. I drilled four holes in the bottom and used zip-ties to secure it to my bike rack-thing (I’m sure there is an official term for the rack). I glued four flashing lights to the outside of the toolbox for good nighttime visibility. The toolbox usually has the following in it:
- Air pump
- Small first-aid kit
- Bike lock
- Water bottle
- Copy of the ‘Who, What, When’
- Front light - This was a solar landscape light. Good in theory, but clumsy and prone to falling off. I’m going to use something different this year.
- Kickstand - works great unless the playa is very soft. I recommend having one. If they made a kickstand with a wide pad on the end of it, that would be perfect.
- Mary bag (and bungee cords) - Perfect for getting ice. I can fit three bags of cubes in the ‘Mary’ bag. I then bungee the bag on the back of my bike between the seat and the toolbox.
- Bell - Good for getting someone’s attention so you don’t mow them down. Far nicer than yelling at people.
