After posting my first Burning Man tip, Erik suggested the topic of using “two tents: one for sleeping, and one for your dusty, playafied gear”.
Excellent idea. I’ve been doing it for awhile, though I can’t remember when I started, or how I heard of it. If you have a small sleeping tent, trying to store supplies in it will make it difficult to maneuver or find anything. A second tent allows you keep things out of the dust, or keep really dusty items out of your sleeping tent.
Your supplies tent can be your old Burning Man tent from previous years, or a garage sale find.
Things I keep in my supplies tent:
- Unopened water containers
- Costume supplies
- Art projects (to bring out later in the week)
- Dirty clothes, muddy/dusty boots
- Cartop carrier (soft-sided)
- Empty gear boxes and tent storage bags
If I were on the playa without a shade shelter, I would also use the supplies tent for:
- Food
- Camping gear
- Tools
- Anything I didn’t want to leave out when it got windy
Thanks for the idea, Erik. You can find Erik’s photo gallery here:
