ILBL8 i hit some1 doh

A headline in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer today read, “Texting while driving: Should it be a crime?.
Why isn’t the answer to this question obvious? How about an article, “Texting while driving: Why isn’t a crime yet?”
(Translation: ILBL8 i hit some1 doh = “I’ll be late. I hit someone… Stupid me!”)

Technical difficulties - Please stand by

There have been a few problems after I upgraded to Wordpress 2.1. I’m hoping they’ll get resolved quickly.
In the mean time go outside, read a book, or call your mother.
– Later that afternoon –
Wow! Practically everything has been changed, upgraded, replaced, edited, or hammered into place. I like the update to the […]

Burning Man tip 04 - Don’t bring a rug. Make a floorcloth!

A rug can provide a haven, from the playa, for your feet; reduce dust (ha!) in your shade shelter; and introduce visual interest in your camp. However, a rug can also be hard to transport; a magnet for dust; and nearly impossible to manage when wet, muddy, and heavy.
Make a floorcloth instead. Floorcloth […]

Flickr tools, toys, and things to try

On my “someday” list, I had this entry, “Upload photos to Flickr.com account.” I had created the account a year ago, but hadn’t used it.
My comet McNaught pictures inspired me to give it a try. It was easy. Real easy. I installed a helper program that I got from the flickr site, uploaded […]

Slow Down Week, January 14 - 20th, 2007

Slow Down Week
“Seven days without fast food, fast cars or cheap thrills. Seven days of taking your time, breathing easy and making yourself at home.”
I only heard about it today, but there’s no reason why we couldn’t experience, practice and enjoy Slow Down Week, next week… or any week.

Burning Man tip 03 - Have a supplies/gear tent

After posting my first Burning Man tip, Erik suggested the topic of using “two tents: one for sleeping, and one for your dusty, playafied gear”.
Excellent idea. I’ve been doing it for awhile, though I can’t remember when I started, or how I heard of it. If you have a small sleeping tent, trying […]

My Hewlett Packard HP4600 scanner is a piece of junk (that’s why I backed my car over it)

Keywords: junk, HP, Hewlett Packard, HP4600 scanner, broken, out-of-warranty, waste-of-time, dissatisfaction, stinks, unhappy, garbage, catharsis
I was trying to scan my journal for a future blog post, when I reached a point where it was no longer worth my time, or sanity, to work with the scanner any longer. Here’s a graph showing that point, […]

Comet McNaught over Shilshole Bay in Seattle

Before sunset, I braved the icy roads and drove to Golden Gardens Park. I was hoping to catch a glimpse of comet McNaught. The temperature was in the mid-to-low thirties and there was a brisk breeze. Even if I didn’t get a glimpse of the comet, watching the sunset was worth it.

I […]
