I’m reaching the end of my T-mobile cell phone contract and I’ve been looking at options. Based on the few calls I make, prepaid makes sense. The “helpful” T-M service rep. offered me a 75 minute/$19.99 per month plan that isn’t available for new contracts ($29.99/300 minutes per month is the plan I currently have. It’s the most basic monthly plan T-Mobile currently offers.)
- $20 month for 75 minutes/month for one-year (shortest contract) gives you:
$240/year, 900 minutes/year, 27 cents/minute
If I convert to T-Mobile’s prepaid plan and buy their $100/1000 Minute card (which is good for one year):
- $100/year, 1000 minutes, 10 cents/minute
So I can save $140 dollars/year and get 100 more minutes by going to prepaid. It pays to do the math.
I looked at Tracfone, and while they have some good plans, I wouldn’t be able to use my existing phone, and their minutes are more expensive. I did get a Tracphone for my Mom as a trial/starter phone.
